Pedestal dining table
Mahogany, England, George III style, XVIII century.
The dining room – a room dedicated to the eating of meals – and the dining table arranged in the middle of it probably come from England. They appear episodically around the end of the 17th century and flourish in aristocratic residences over the following century. Before this, meals were eaten in the main room, on a temporary table made of a board and trestles.
This table is interesting because it has a tilting top that makes storage easier.
